Une fois que vous avez trouvé votre future famille Américaine, vous aurez besoin de faire les démarches pour obtenir votre visa de séjour pour vivre un an aux USA.
Pour ceci il y a plusieurs étapes. Voici nos conseils et explications:
Il faut remplir certains formulaires, prendre rendez-vous pour votre entretien et vous rendre à l’ambassade à Paris le jours de l’entretien. Le visa sera envoyé après l’entretien. Au Pair In America vont vous envoyer un ‘visa pack’ dès que vous êtes placée dans votre famille.
Quelles sont les démarches pour avoir le Visa J-1 “Au Pair” pour les USA ?
Pour être jeune fille au pair il faut obtenir un visa auprès de l’ambassade des États-Unis à Paris.
Il faut fournir des papiers et informations que votre ‘sponsor’ – l’organisme au pair in America – va vous donner une fois que vous avez trouvé votre famille.
Ensuite vous devez préparer votre dossier de candidature au Visa J-1 “Au Pair”. Ce dossier est constitué des éléments suivants :
- Le formulaire d’inscription DS-160 téléchargeable sur l’espace dédié au visa J1 de l’ambassade américaine.
- Une photo d’identité numérique à télécharger dans votre espace de candidature
- Le reçu du paiement en ligne « SEVIS » fourni par au pair in America.
- Une photocopie du diplôme du Baccalauréat ou équivalent
- Une preuve d’intention de quitter le territoire américain à la fin du séjour au Pair.

Suivez attentivement les conseils fournis par au pair in America dans le pack d’informations que vous allez recevoir par courrier.
Ensuite vous devez aller à Paris pour L’entretien avec l’officier consulaire. Ça ne durera que quelques minutes, le temps de vérifier vos papiers. L’agent consulaire pourra vos poser ce genre de question :
- Pourquoi avoir choisi les USA comme destination pour être au pair ?
- Que comptez-vous faire après votre année au pair ?
- Pourquoi vous voulez être au pair?
Suite à l’entretien, l’agent vous indiquera en général si le visa est accordé. Vous réceptionnerez votre passeport et visa par envoi postal 3 à 4 jours après l’entretien. Pensez à scanner le visa pour en garder une copie.
Vous voilà maintenant prêt à partir aux USA !
Qu’avez vous besoin à votre rendez-vous à l’ambassade ?
- le formulaire DS-2019 signé et daté. Vous trouverez cela dans la partie “visa” de votre profil en ligne.
- le formulaire DS-160, qui est un formulaire en ligne. La confirmation doit être imprimée et prise avec vous lors de votre entretien. L’ambassade vous demandera de remplir le formulaire avant votre prise de rendez-vous – allez sur leur site pour plus d’informations.
- Frais de visa – sur le site de l’ambassade
- Photo de visa, à mettre sur votre formulaire DS-160, encore une fois allez voir sur le site pour savoir les précisions sur le format de la photographie.
- Votre passeport, valide pendant 18 mois à partir de votre date de départ.
- Frais de SEVIS (attaché à votre formulaire DS-2019)
- Lettre de placement

Tips for the Visa Interview:
- Do not be nervous, the interview will last no more than 15 minutes.
- Be confident and calm.
- Reply to their questions simply and directly and DO NOT LIE.
- Be familiar with your contract so you can easily respond to their questions. Practice your English before the interview and use simple English during the interview.
- Make sure you have all the required documents and photocopies of them.
- Bring proof of what you will do when you return to France. The Visa Officer wants to know that you will not stay in the US longer than your visa allows.
- Dress professionally.
- If you do not understand what the Officer says, do not hesitate to ask them to repeat the question.
